There are differences in air travel. The three main options are:
- Major Airlines are the most popular type of flight and they fly to
destinations worldwide. They operate all year with “scheduled”
departure times offering maximum flexibility. You can fly any day and
for any time period subject only to the airlines timetable.
There are advantages to traveling with a major carrier if you can find
a bargain. These include assigned seating so you can avoid that rush
at the departure gates and you may get some kind of in-flight service
too. If your flight is cancelled or delayed, the traditional airlines
will be able to get you on another flight or help you with accommodations
for the night.
Cheap flights for scheduled major airline flights are normally obtained
by booking early to take advantage of special offers.
- Charter Flights are organized by tour operators to supply cheap flights
for popular package vacation destinations. For example, you might purchase
a vacation package to Mexico and the package price would include air
fare and hotel accomodations.
Charter flights continue to offer some of the best value air fares.
Tour companies want the airplane filled so may offer last-minute discounts.
- Low Cost or “No Frills” Budget Airlines have met consumers’
preference for lower fares over higher service. Air travelers often
criticize the descent of air travel style and class, but consumers vote
with their dollars, and the pattern of their preference has been unmistakable.
While they enjoy complaining about cheese-cracker meals and time-consuming
routing through Cincinnati or some other hub, most are reluctant to
pay anything but the lowest fare.
For the cheapest low budget flights you need to book early.
